What is Start Giving Local

Today Start Giving Local is a volunteer-run US Registered 501(C)3 nonprofit. It directly runs volunteer programs and events that support community wellness. 


It is not a fundraising platform. It is not a political organization. 

What is a "charity athlete"?

A charity athlete is an individual who participates in activities like marathons, triathlons, or century bike rides to raise funds for charitable causes.

Why does Start Giving Local participate in community endurance events?

Can anyone become a volunteer?

Yes! Start Giving Local welcomes individuals of all ages and backgrounds to become volunteers. Whether you're a student, professional, retiree, or someone who wants to make a positive impact, we have opportunities for everyone.

Can I organize a fundraising event at my home?

We encourage community involvement and welcome inquiries from community members interested in getting involved. We require all volunteers to follow state and local guidance for nonprofit and fundraising activities and that limits home-based activities in some markets

Is your organization transparent?

Start Giving Local is committed to transparent operations.  We have achieved a Candid Platinum rating for several consecutive years.

How much of my donation directly supports the cause?

Today we are a volunteer-run operation. Over 95 cents out of every dollar is directly applied to impact programs.

What is the minimum age to volunteer?

We follow State and Local guidance on volunteer rules. Where legally allowed, underage volunteers are welcome with direct adult supervision

Can I volunteer with a group?

Yes! Start Giving Local supports group volunteer opportunities. Whether it's a team-building activity for your company, a community service project with your club, or a family volunteering event, you can find and sign up for group opportunities with our team.

How is Start Giving Local committed to community wellness?

Start Giving Local is dedicated to promoting the overall well-being of individuals and communities. We strive to connect volunteers/participants with programs and opportunities that focus on various aspects of community wellness, including but not limited to healthcare access, mental health support, healthy living initiatives, and social services. Start Giving Local recognizes the importance of health equity and works diligently to support Initiatives and programs that address disparities in access to healthcare and health outcomes. We actively seek and promote volunteer opportunities that support marginalized communities, provide healthcare services to underserved populations, and work towards reducing health inequalities in society.
